
His Worship, Councillor Sakarias Uunona, was elected Mayor of Windhoek on 5 December 2025, following the 2025 Regional and Local Authority Elections. Representing the SWAPO Party, Councillor Uunona brings two decades of political leadership experience and a strong commitment to inclusive governance and sustainable urban development. In his role as Mayor, Councillor Uunona serves as Chairperson of the 15-member Municipal Council of Windhoek, in accordance with the Local Authorities Act, 1992 (Act 23 of 1992, as amended).
Professionally, Councillor Uunona is an experienced Property Manager at Design Struct cc, with over 20 years of expertise in project management, business operations, and construction supervision. He holds a Namibian Estate Agents Board Certificate, a Higher Certificate in Management (Project Management), and multiple professional certifications in Business Management, AutoCAD Design, and Financial Management.
Beyond his official duties, Mayor Uunona is a devoted family man and an active contributor to community development initiatives. He has held several notable leadership and advisory roles, including serving as Chairperson of the Afrocat Youth Organization, where he championed youth empowerment through sports development by establishing soccer and netball teams across five regions. He also serves as an Advisor to the National Catholic Youth League and is a member of the Windhoek East Constituency Development Committee.
Councillor Uunona is widely regarded as a visionary and principled leader, known for his consultative approach, thoughtful decision-making, and commitment to fostering public trust and sustainable progress.
Guided by a passion for inclusive governance and sustainable urban development, Councillor Uunona’s leadership agenda prioritizes land delivery, affordable housing, and enhanced service delivery, with the aim of addressing the needs of Windhoek residents in a holistic and sustainable manner.
