The Emergency Management Division provides services that include suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical services, heavy rescue, water rescue, hazardous material response and community awareness safety education in an effort to enhance the safety and quality of life for the people of the City of Windhoek.
In partnership with the community, the Emergency Management Division endeavours to render reliable emergency services through professional conduct, the application of modern technology and sound management operational practices in its day to day operations.
In executing on its mandate, the Emergency Management Division is made up of the following sections:
Support and Logistic Section.
This Section provides services and support systems to all divisional components involved in reported incidents. These include: administrative support and facilities, transportation, equipment maintenance, fuelling, feeding, communications and responder rehab.
Operations
The Operations Section is responsible for protecting the lives and property of residents endangered by fire, life threatening illness or injury, hazardous material and major disasters.
Training
The Division runs a training school which is accredited by the Southern African Emergency Services Institute and it offers a wide range of fire fighting, hazardous materials handling and emergency medical courses.
Fire Prevention Section
The Fire Prevention Section is responsible for all fire service activities that decrease incidences of uncontrolled fire in the City of Windhoek. Usually fire prevention methods utilised by the Windhoek Emergency Management Division focuses on Fire Safety Inspections, Fire Engineering on Building Plan Designs, the Code Law Enforcement, Public Fire Safety Education and Fire Investigation.
