The Mayor is nominated by Council members from amongst themselves for the period of one year. He/she is a Chairperson of Council. In the same manner council members also nominate the Deputy Mayor and five members of the Management Committee. The current Mayor of the City of Windhoek is Cllr AM Kafula. The Chief Executive Officer heads the administrative part of the municipality including the Office of the Mayor. Hence, the administrative staff in the Office of the Mayor reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The combined office ensures proper alignment of policy development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and alignment of programmes and initiatives with the political agenda.
